[[home|← Ultimentality Wiki]] # Occurrent Meaning and Sedimented Meaning ## Definition Significance in a [[meaning-maker|meaning-maker]] shows two temporal faces, and the page carves the pair that the single word *meaning* keeps fusing. - **Occurrent meaning** is presently activated structured significance: significance doing work *inside a transformation now underway* — the difference that is, at this moment, altering a selection, a routing, a threshold, an action. - **Sedimented meaning** is retained disposition: the structure by which prior activation *alters what may become significant later* — the standing bias in what will be admitted, weighted, or discharged when a next occasion arrives. Sedimented meaning is substrate-plural. Biological **memory**, ingrained **habit**, executable **code**, **inherited regulation** carried in a genome or a body plan, an **archive** of records, and the standing **institutional rules** of a procedure can each hold it — wherever a retained disposition still governs what a later occasion will admit, weight, or discharge as significant.
